MAY 16TH & COUNTING!!!!!

You probably know we had negotiations on the 16th and you are biting at the bit to know what took place!!!

We have overcome all the obstacles with the verbiage and came to a mutual agreement and you will be able to review it in a very short time.

People we are just this close to our goal!

While we can get rea
dy to rock , we are still negotiating salary percentages, on June 4th we will hear the Authority's counter proposal.

So what is next, first we need to introduce a new AFSCME committee woman, Karmen Ortloff, Paula King is retiring but will stay on to aid in the transition . You will get an opportunity to formally meet her at our next informational meeting which will be scheduled sometime after June 4th.

Our next meeting will be an important one, so we encourage you to make the time to attend it.

This contract links us together-it is mine, yours and ours-give yourself a chance to hear what has been accomplished and with any luck we will have more information on salaries!

It has always
been a team effort people!

Now stop and think have you signed your green card yet!!

Now is the time to make up your
mind! I have enough cards to go around!

The green card is the only way that you can vote on the contract-don't sell yourself short! Without that card signed you will be completely out of the decision making process.

What if you don't like what we agree to-you didn't sign the card-then shame on you!

Now in case you have heard rumors it has been proposed to put us on a bi-weekly pay schedule that would go into effect with your retro check. We are still discussing the effects on folks. If you have any questions about this feel free to contact one of us!

I feel confident that you will be happy with what we have settled on, again nothing is final until we all vote on it!

Comments, questions, gossip, news- feel free to post! Oh and yes people the Authority does read the blog!

And Remember Green is Good!

So AFSCME has negotiated all professional services members wear uniforms like Best Buy employees. The reason, because the Executive Director wants to be able to DISCRIMINATE between management and AFSCME employees in the C.A. building. Are they going to wear "Friends of Blagojevich" buttons as a counter? It is also true that members of the negotiating team have re-structured their pay grades to position themselves in a better financial light when the pay increases finally arrive. Hear this, when the volume of green card signatures begin to increase, it is disgusted members signing up to vote NO on the ratification. AFSCME is giving up our personal dignity for a 5% pay increase? Give back the uniforms and grab some more cash morons! No one is going to ratify a contract which includes Brownies uniforms....Don't you have any pride???????

Well "Disgusted" we appreciate your opinion and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but yours is predominately based on speculation. If you had any PRIDE you would First get the FACTS before you voiced you opinion! We haven't heard their counter proposal on raises so I am curious where you got the 5%? AND unless you happen to be one of the chosen ones I expect that would more than you have received so far! If you want real information you know where to find me! If you want to continue to hear propaganda please continue to go to your source of it!

Since the beginning of this blog I have sat back and read the very few posted comments. This is the first one attempting to insult the negotiating team. Disgusted I commend you for pointing out how fast rumors become facts.

FALSE - AFSCME has not negotiated that all professional services members wear uniforms like Best Buy employees. All because the Executive Director wants to be able to DISCRIMINATE between management and AFSCME employees in the C.A. building.

TRUTH - In a perfect world, certain individuals may want to wear jeans and a Def Leppard T-shirt but our Board of Directors and Executive Director kinda frown upon that. I'll try to ask if it is their intent to discriminate between management and AFSCME members. I highly doubt it. So one day they decided to make policy that we all dress professionally. One oversight that wasn't taken into consideration is that certain job titles should be wearing scrappy clothes because of their job duties. Maybe an individual works under vehicles...maybe an individual carries greasy automotive parts...maybe they are out in a ditch line. Either way a tollway issue polo in place of a dress shirt and tie fits the work environment better. Uniforms are being discussed in a committee for certain job titles. It was suggested that all professional services members wear clothing that is tollway issue. It is still being discussed and to the several individuals that have approached me, I will pass on your dislike for such.

Are they going to wear "Friends of Blagojevich" buttons as a counter To answer that would be foolish, but I'll do it anyway. Probably not, Duh, that's a separate committee!

FALSE - Members of the negotiating team have re-structured their pay grades to position themselves in a better financial light.

TRUTH - We have taken numerous job titles into yet another committee "the titles committee" and have requested that those job titles be considered for reclassification or to be regraded. No one on the negotiating team has had a change of grade. We, negotiating team members, buy our own lunch just like everyone else. The only financial gain this team will get is the same raise everyone else will get that will be covered under this contract.

And to answer your last question...Don't you have any pride??????? I do have pride! I wear a union pin that means nothing to you. I'm at the negotiating table standing up to administration on your behalf all for a polo t-shirt and a decent raise. So to explain all this to a true moron, well I just feel so much better.

Just as a passing comment. I'm really impressed on the hard work our negotiating team has endured. Yes, I have heard a lot of "Rumor stuff" that I know is most likely not true. I'll wait 'till I hear the real story from our team before developing any personal opinion. Guys? Keep up the good work !!

Disgusted,
I have been trying to keep up with what is going on with negotiations by talking to some of the members on the committee on a pretty regular basis. To the best of my knowledge none of the things that you have mentioned are even close to true. Now while I am guessing that it is unlikely that you will post again to share your sources on this information that your posting I am curious to know where it came from. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I hope that then the negotiation group is done you really take some time to read the purposed contract before making any rash judgments. Whether you and your group vote no on the purposed contract or not the union is here to stay and regardless of our differences we should try and work together on this instead of trying to incite people without providing any facts.

Sam

To: "-- Disgusted --"

To paraphrase a part of your post:

=================================
Hear this, when the volume of green card signatures begin to increase, it is disgusted members signing up to vote NO on the ratification.
=================================

How can you possibly know this? Did you take an independant poll?
I doubt it --
